12U plays well in Tennesee

The Rochester Cougars Elite Baseball Team, comprised of Rochester area 12 year olds, traveled to Pigeon Forge, TN over the July 4 th Holiday to play at the new $23M Cal Ripken Facility that opened this earlier this year and represented Rochester area baseball in tremendous fashion. The Cougars competed against 24 other teams in the “8 State Battle Tournament.” In pool play they were challenged by teams from Baton Rouge, LA; Mason, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois & Houston, Texas finishing 3-1 and advancing to the Gold Bracket Championship pool.

In the quarterfinals they faced a very good team from Birmingham, Alabama – The Huskies, beating them 12-4. Next up, on to the semis, where they beat another Louisiana team, the Baton Rouge Outlaws 13-0 moving them into the finals vs. The Indiana Astros from Indianapolis. In a very close, hard fought, well-pitched game, the Cougars fell short losing 3-2 taking home the Silver Rings awarded to the tournament second place finishers. The Rochester Cougars 12U are a team comprised of young men from around the area. As presently constructed the team is represented by 4 –Pittsford players: Tyler Procious, Keegan Cummings, James Capellupo & Jack Zawacki. 2-Webster: Mike Salina & Matt Salina. 1- Fairport: Braden Consaul, 1–Penfield: Chase Playfair. 2 – Greece: Jaden Madrid & Zach Allen and 2 – Hilton players: Preston Prince and Carter Clark. The team is managed by Nelson Madrid of Greece and Coached by Jim Capellupo of Pittsford, Rob Consaul of Fairport and Ryan Allen also of Greece.

The team, while competing locally having won the Darien Lake Tournament and the Thruway League is also scheduled for 3 more big tournaments this year: Cal Ripken -Aberdeen, Maryland. Diamond Nation-Flemington, New Jersey and the granddaddy of them all – Cooperstown Dreams Park, Cooperstown, New York.
